Before 2020's COVID-19 Pandemic, the Comic book Movie Genre was a billion-dollar money maker.

Both Marvel Studios (owned now by Disney) and DC Comics (Owned by Warner Bros.) have produced record revenue Worldwide featuring six of the Top 20 Highest-Grossing Movies of all time are Superhero movies.

Those numbers do not include the highest-grossing R-rated movie of all time, the Summer Blockbuster Deadpool and Wolverine.  In the United States, 18 of the Top 50 Highest-Grossing Films Domestically are Superhero Genre Movies. This has given Comicbook Superheroes new life as pop culture icons.

That Deadpool and Wolverine movie last summer is one of the only Superhero genre movies to generate massive revenue in theaters.  The entire movie industry has seen diminished returns in recent years, but Comicbook based movies are still one of the highest generators of revenue for toys and online streaming.

July 2025 is a big month for the two studios that produce comic book genre movies.  The first new Superman movie is debuting in theaters since 2013, and one of the oldest Superhero teams, The Fantastic Four, is having their first movie come to theaters in 10 years.

The Marvel Comics Superhero found a new level of popularity in the 21st Century thanks to the Daredevil Netflix show.  Debuting in 2015, the blind Vigilantee was the centerpiece of Mature Marvel TV Shows, featuring street-level heroes from New York City.  Daredevil became one of the most popular streaming shows from 2015 to 2018.
