Vic Fangio declares Nakobe Dean starting linebacker: “He won the job”
As the Philadelphia Eagles begin preparations for their Monday Night Football matchup with the Atlanta Falcons, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio met with the media and answered some of the questions that came about after this win over the Packers.
One of them was the status of Devin White at linebacker.
White missed the first game in Brazil with an ankle injury, with Nakobe Dean starting the game. Many wondered what White's role would be when he is healthy enough to return and Fangio confirmed today that Dean will reman the starter moving forward.
"Dean won the job," Fangio stated on Wednesday.
"We talked to him (White) about it, he still a good player, he is part of it and will be part of it," Fangio added.
White was signed to a one-year deal worth up to $7.5 million back in March and many presumed the former first round pick, who was a liability against the run in Tampa, would be the starter.
Next to Dean was newcomer Zack Baun, who signed a one-year contract with the Eagles back in March. He made a huge impact in his first game with Philadelphia, collecting 15 total tackles and two sacks in his debut.
Fangio said, while he didn't see him play a lot as in inside linebacker in New Orleans, he saw just enough to think he could handle this role.
"From those few plays - I thought he could do it," Fangio said.
For one night, he sure looks like he can do it.
