Congrats to Wildwood's Wesley Hills for scoring the season's first 97.3 ESPN High School Athlete of the Week award.

We have a new batch of local student-athletes who have proven themselves on the field this week. You can vote for your pick, and hear the winner announced on the South Jersey Sports Report with Tyler Donohue Saturday morning at 9:00.

Jarren McBride, Football, Atlantic City: The Vikings quarterback proved his dual-threat capabilities throughout a thrilling 34-28 victory at Egg Harbor Township. McBride accumulated over 400 yards of total offense, tossed three touchdowns and ran for another two scores. He helped Atlantic City overcome an early 14-0 deficit with a 78-yard sprint to the end zone that started the Vikings’ impressive scoring output.

Anthony Giagunto, Football, St. Joe: Giagunto improved to 19-0 as the Wildcats’ starting quarterback by leading a game-winning drive that lasted 10 plays and covered 69 yards. He ended a defensive slugfest against Holy Spirit with 15 seconds remaining in the contest, when he found Miles Pease in the end zone. Giagunto completed a 22-yard touchdown strike that gave St. Joe a 7-0 victory.

Bridget Flynn, Cross Country, Ocean CityFlynn established a new record finish for the Atlantic City cross country course during a tri-meet at ACHS. She finished in 18 minutes, 54 seconds, topping former Red Raiders standout Brittany Sedberry’s 2005 mark. Her effort helped Ocean City remain unbeaten.

Calvin Cass, Football, St. Augustine: Cass continues to emerge as a premier South Jersey running back. The senior ran over and around Lower Cape May Regional, leading the Hermits to a 41-7 victory on the road. Cass compiled 252 rushing yards and four touchdowns.

Damon Mitchell, Football, Cedar Creek: The playmaker affectionately known as “Duwop” did plenty of damage during the Pirates’ home opener against Bridgeton. Mitchell, a senior quarterback who is committed to Georgia Tech, completed three touchdown passes and scored as a ball carrier in a 35-6 Cedar Creek win. Mitchell also intercepted a pass on defense.
