Happy New Year! My wife and I enjoyed another terrific New Year’s Eve dinner at the Lobster House with three other couples, a tradition we started about 12 years ago.
Three stars
- Commanders Quarterback Josh Johnson (1 touchdown pass, 1 TD run).
- Eagles edge rusher Jalyx Hunt (1 interception and 1 fumble recovery).
- Commanders safety Jeremy Reaves (1 interception, tied for team-high 7 tackles).
Eagles’ best play
Eagles coach Nick Sirianni made the right decision by resting most of the starters on Sunday. It’s better to have the team as healthy and rested as possible heading into the playoffs.
Eagles’ worst play
Commanders quarterback Josh Johnson scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard run to the outside in the fourth quarter in part because cornerback Kelee Ringo ran the wrong way on the play.
Turning point
The Eagles had a chance to tie or take the lead late in the game, but turned the ball over on downs when quarterback Tanner McKee’s fourth-down pass sailed incomplete.
Did you notice?
*The Eagles are seeded No. 3 in the NFC and will play host to No. 6 seed 49ers in the wild-card round of the playoffs next Saturday or Sunday.
*Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith played just long enough to surpass 1,000 receiving yards for the season. Smith (1,008) and A.J. Brown (1,003) are the first Eagles wide receiver duo to surpass 1,000 yards in three straight seasons.
*Eagles running back Tank Bigsby rushed for 75 yards and a TD on 16 carries.… Quarterback Tanner McKee finished 21-for-40 for 241 yards with a TD and interception.… Smith was the only Eagles offensive starter to see action. Defensive tackle Jordan Davis was part of the rotation.… Commanders place-kicker Jake Moody hit the upright with a 24-yard field goal early, then made a 56-yarder.
