Wendell Smallwood Among Eagles’ Inactives in Game vs Cardinals
The Eagles are going to be without star defensive tackle Fletcher Cox for the second consecutive week with a calf injury, he was already ruled out on Friday, leaving Beau Allen to start in his place.
The Eagles are also missing cornerback Ronald Darby, who was ruled out Friday because of an ankle injury suffered in Week 1 against Washington.
Pederson said that missing Smallwood doesn't limit the play-calling in the running game.
"We do have specific runs for guys, but all the guys have to know those specific runs," explained Pederson. 'We do call for specific guys in certain situations, but listen, LeGarrette has to know them all, Corey has to know them all, Wendell has to know them all, even RB Kenjon Barner has to know them all. That's kind of the way we approach that."
While Pederson said it doesn't change the way they will call plays, ESPN NFL reporter Sal Paolantonio joined the Sports Bash on Friday and discussed the significance of losing Smallwood.
"it changes it (the offense) significantly," Paolantonio stated. "Smallwood was on the field for 49 snaps (last week), so Smallwood's absence would be big coming on the heels of Sproles absence."
