VOORHEES — Steve Mason has walked around tight-lipped since the final buzzer of Game 3 Monday night so he doesn’t say the wrong thing.

The Flyers goalie probably deserves better, yet through Monday’s action his .852 save percentage is the worst among any goalie so far in this year’s NHL playoffs.

With the Flyers hanging by a thread, Dave Hakstol might have a decision to make as to who to put in goal: Mason, the guy who got the Flyers to the playoffs, or Michal Neuvirth, who smoked his competition in November and December but has played in two games since March 5.

“I think it’s just an understanding between Hak and I that I want to play,” Mason said. “In saying that, it’s up to him.”

His numbers look terrible and the 101-foot goal he allowed in Game 2 looks way worse.

There’s another side to the story, though. Does changing the goalie when the team is on its last leg make a huge difference considering how the first three games have been won for the Washington Capitals?

“It’s a tough question to answer,” Jake Voracek said. “I mean, Mase was outstanding all season. But when you look at it from the other side, you give him two goals in three games to work with, it’s not really fun to play under that much pressure. I don’t know what the decision is going to be with goalies on (Wednesday), but it’s going to start with the special teams to 5-on-5. Everybody has to chip in.”
