The 2016 MLB Draft has come and gone with the Phillies selecting Centerfielder Mickey Moniak with the number one overall pick.  Drafting Moniak financially allowed the Phillies to go big with 2nd round pick of Pitcher Kevin Gowdy.

Jim Callis is Senior Writer for MLB.com and MLBPipeline.com explained to Mike Gill on Monday why the Phillies had the best overall draft in 2016:

“ I wrote on back-to-back days that the Phillies had the best second day draft out of anyone and also had the best overall draft. They came out right away in round 3 and signed a kid named Cole Stobbe, a high school third baseman from Omaha. He has a long history of success with team USA. He is also a very good bat and started hitting for more power this year. You could have a .280 and 20 homer third basemen in him and they came back and got two pretty good lefties who will move fairly quickly in JoJo Romero and Cole Irvin. I really like the sixth round pick David Martinelli from Texas Baptist, I think David had a chance to go in the second or third round, he hit better this year and tooled up. I thought he was a steal in the sixth round.”
