Eagles Add Joe Flacco as Backup QB

It appears the Eagles are set on Jalen Hurts as the starting quarterback.

With the team signing veteran Joe Flacco, it would appear they are going with Flacco to back up Hurts rather than select a quarterback with pick No. 6 in the draft. With Flacco on board, the team has a veteran who can mentor Hurts and can focus on adding an impact player at wide receiver or on the defensive side of the ball in the draft.

The deal is a 1-year deal worth $3.5 million and up to $4 million with incentives, per Adam Caplan of Inside the Birds.

Flacco appeared in five games, going 0-4 as a starter, in 2020 with the Jets. The 36-year old threw for 864 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions.

The Audubon high school alum, played his college ball at Delaware and was drafted by the Ravens in the first-round of the draft.

He won Super Bowl XLVII and was named the game's MVP.

In 13 seasons, Flacco has 40,931 passing yards, 224 touchdown passes and 144 interceptions.
