Eagles’ Darius Slay Recruiting Steven Nelson?
It is well documented that the Eagles still need to find a cornerback to play opposite incumbent starter Darius Slay. While the team has a ton of bodies, none of them really have the experience or resume to be a starter on the outside.
Avonte Maddox struggled on the outside last season and is better suited to move inside to the slot. The team drafted Texas Tech corner Zech McPhearson, but are they going to toss a fourth-round pick into the lion's den from Week 1?
Michael Jacquett and Kevon Seymour both have intriguing size, Craig James and Josiah Scott both project more as a slot corner.
So who is the favorite to win that job?
It could be someone who isn't currently on the roster is Slay has his way. The 30-year old took to twitter to let people know he would like to see free agent corner Steven Nelson in midnight green.
Nelson acknowledged that the green would look good, responding that, "It could all be so simple my man".
The 28-year old had a solid season in Pittsburgh last season with 48 tackles and two interceptions, ranking at the No. 36 corner in football by Pro Football Focus. He was released by the Steelers in a salary cap saving move to free up $8.25 million in cap space.
One thing is for sure, if the Eagles sign Nelson, we have the answer to the question, as to who will start opposite Slay. It sounds like if Slay has his way, the answer will be Nelson.
