Eagles Notes: Rookie Cooper DeJean Set To Replace Maddox In Eagles’ Defensive Lineup
The Philadelphia Eagles are coming out of their bye week, and they could have a few changes to their lineup when they return to Lincoln Financial Feild on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns.
According to ESPN Jeremey Fowler, the team is poised to make a change at the nickel corner spot, replacing Avonte Maddox.
As Fowler writes:
Rookie Cooper DeJean taking over nickel corner duties from veteran Avonte Maddox. That's a move I'm expecting, barring new developments. DeJean, a second-rounder with first-round talent, got off to a slow start due to a preseason injury but is considered all caught up with Vic Fangio's scheme.
Fowler went on to say that multiple changes were discussed on the defensive side of the ball, but nothing else has been reported at this time.
DeJean was a second-round pick from Iowa, who sustained a hamstring injury in training camp, putting him behind the best of a crowded cornerback field. The team now believes he is back to full strength and ready to replace the veteran Maddox.
Nick Sirianni on the hot seat?
With the New York Jets firing head coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday, discussions on which NFL coach could be next to go have already started.
While Fowler stopped short of saying Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was his choice, he did make mention of him among coaches to keep an eye on.
Yeah, how Nick Sirianni's Eagles come out of the bye week is key. Will changes be made, particularly on defense? After that, we know the usual suspects here, Dan. We've discussed how Brian Daboll (Giants) and Mike McCarthy (Cowboys) need inspired performances this season.
The Eagles host the Cleveland Browns this Sunday at 1 p.m. with Merrill Resse and MIke Quick calling all the action on 97.3 ESPN. Eagles Radio Network pregame coverage begins at noon.
