Eagles Make Surprising Roster Shakeup That Impacts Offensive Line depth
Since joining the Eagles coaching staff in 2013, Jeff Stoutland has been the catalyst in developing the Philadelphia Offensive Line Unit into one of the best in the NFL each season.
The Eagles have a long history of developing players who were not first-round picks into Pro Bowl-caliber starters. The most famous success story is former Rugby Player Jordan Mailata, who has become one of the best Left Tackles in the NFL.
So when the Eagles make decisions about which Offensive Linemen to keep and which guys to let go, you know that none of it happens without input from the man who is one of the best Offensive Line coaches in all of American Football.
The Eagles' Latest Roster Moves Shake Up Offensive Line Depth
After keeping Interior Offensive Lineman Trevor Keegan on the initial 53-man roster, the Eagles are waiving him less than 12 hours after he made the final cuts for the roster.
Selected in the 5th round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Keegan was a member of the University of Michigan National Championship team during the 2023 season. He was a three-time All-Big Ten selection and Michigan Team Captain.
The Eagles waived Keegan to make room for the addition of Interior Offensive Lineman Willie Lampkin. The 23-year-old played in 61 games during his college career while playing three seasons at Coastal Carolina and two seasons for the North Carolina Tar Heels.
The Los Angeles Rams waived the Undrafted Free Agent Lampkin with an Injury Designation. The Offensive Lineman suffered an Ankle and Knee injury during the Rams' second preseason game.
Lampkin is an incredible athlete, even though he is an undersized Offensive Lineman (5'11"). He was 47-0 as a High School Wrestler in his Senior Year. He is the type of physically gifted football player that Jeff Stoutland can mold into a reliable NFL player and maximize his potential.
Another surprising move by the Eagles on Wednesday was to waive Safety Tristan McCollum. Philadelphia decided to re-sign Long Snapper Charley Hughlett less than 12 hours after cutting him ahead of the 53-man roster cut deadline.
McCollum can still return to the Eagles Practice Squad if he passes through waivers, since he is one of the guys who knows Defensive Coordinator Vig Fangio's system, and the Eagles DC values guys like McCollum who know the defense he wants to operate.
Only time will tell if Stoutland can develop the athletic Lampkin into another great Eagles Offensive Lineman like Jason Kelce, Jordan Mailata, or Cam Jurgens.
