The Flyers had options for who could be the backup for Carter Hart in goal next season. With days left until two in-house options reached free agency, the Flyers made their choice.

The Flyers have re-signed goalie Brian Elliott to a one-year, $2 million deal, GM Chuck Fletcher announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Elliott, 34, remains with the Flyers for what will be his third season. Last season, Elliott appeared in 26 games, making 23 starts. He had an 11-11-1 record with a 2.96 GAA and .907 save percentage. In his first season with the Flyers, Elliott made 43 appearances and 42 starts, posting a 23-11-7 record with a 2.66 GAA and .909 save percentage.

Elliott had several excellent starts last season, including making 40 saves in the Flyers win over the Penguins in the 2019 Stadium Series. Much of his season was hindered by injuries, which is why he was limited to just 26 games.

With Elliott on board, it means that netminders Michal Neuvirth and Cam Talbot, both still under contract with the Flyers until Monday, will not be brought back.

By re-signing Elliott, the Flyers have $15.1 million in cap space remaining to re-sign restricted free agents Ivan Provorov, Travis Konecny and Scott Laughton, as well as potential add a third-line winger through trade or free agency.

Free agency begins officially on Monday, July 1 at noon. The negotiating window has been open since Sunday for unrestricted free agents.
