Is Pete Mackanin The Phillies Manager Long Term?
Pete Mackanin is in the midst of his second full season as Phillies' Manager after becoming the Interim Manager with 88 games left in 2015. As of July 31st, Mackanin has a record of 147-206 during his time as the Phillies' Skipper. There are those who question if Mackanin is the right man to be the Phillies Manager as the Rebuild moves forward.
USA Today MLB Columnist Bob Nightengale joined Rich Quinones on Tuesday and gave his perspective on the Phillies' Manager future:
(Pete Mackanin is) a good Manager for the young guys....Nobody is going to lead that team to (more) wins. So I think he's just a good guy now. There were other contenders that they could've made the decision like 'Okay is this the guy that we think can lead to the team to the playoffs?' Obviously the Phillies' process is slower than people like and that's what happens. You can be real quick like the Yankees; the Yankees struggled trying to balance it out. People forget the growing pains the Cubs and Astros went through. The Astros were God awful for three years there and now they're a superpower."
