The Defensive Exodus: Dean and Blankenship Follow Suit
Phillips was the first of three key players from the Eagles' defense to depart on the opening day of the NFL’s free agent negotiating period. After Phillips signed, news broke that Nakobe Dean is signing with the Vegas Raiders, and safety Reed Blankenship is headed to the Houston Texans.

Phillips, a 2021 first-round draft pick, totaled just two sacks over his eight games with Philadelphia and had five total in 2025. In five seasons with Miami and the Eagles, he totaled 28 sacks in 63 games, making 46 starts,
Phillips was one of four primary edge rushers for Philadelphia's defense, along with Jalyx Hunt, Nolan Smith, and veteran Brandon Graham, who isn't expected back with the team.
With Phillips gone, the Eagles will ikely look to either the free agent market, try to make a trade or look to add another edge rusher in the draft.
