Millville, NJ, Native Justyn Mutts Declares for NBA Draft, Will Maintain Eligibility
Former St. Augustine Prep Hermits basketball star and Millville native, Justyn Mutts announced he was entering the 2022 NBA draft but would maintain his college eligibility.
Mutts and his Virginia Tech teammates made a a great run this season, capturing the ACC Men's Basketball Tournament, before being knocked out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament by the Texas Longhorns.
Mutts, has one year of eligibility remaining, thanks to the “free” year of eligibility due to COVID-19, leaving the door open for a return to Blacksburg next season.
Mutts wrote the following message via social media:
Mutts’ is keeping his eligibility, with the option of returning to Blacksburg for another season, if he receives feedback that indicates he will not be drafted.
He could also leave the school to begin a professional career overseas.
Mutts had a solid senior season, averaging 10.1 points per game and led Virginia Tech in rebounding at 7.3 per game, starting all 36 games.
While at St. Augustine, Mutts helped lead the Hermits to the 2016 and 2017 state championship and three Cape Atlantic League titles, scoring 12.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.5 blocks per game for Paul Rodio.
Mutts has until June 1 to make his decision on whether he’ll enter the June 23rd draft or return to college. It’s the same route Mainland alum Osun Osunniyi is taking at St. Bonaventure.
