Flyers Sign Tyson Foerster to 8-Year Extension
The first move of free agency was an expected one for the Philadelphia Flyers, signing goalie Dan Vladar to a five-year extension. But that wasn’t the only extension the Flyers were working on.
The Flyers announced an eight-year contract extension with forward Tyson Foerster with an AAV of $7.1 million.
Foerster, 24, was a first-round pick of the Flyers in the 2020 NHL Draft. He has played in 195 NHL games with 61 goals and 100 points. Last season, Foerster suffered an injury that kept him out from December into April, returning in time for the homestretch of the team’s playoff run. Foerster scored 13 goals in 29 games last season. He also had one goal in 10 games in the playoffs.
The winger has dealt with several injuries over his career, but has also seen a regular increase in his scoring. He finished his rookie season with 20 goals, then had 25 goals in his second full season in the NHL. Last season, he was well on-pace to shatter his career-high.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound winger has evolved his game to become a strong forechecker and two-way player, showcasing a heavy shot and scoring ability while being able to play in all areas of the game. It was no secret the Flyers liked his growth and potential, and wanted to keep him for the long-term.
