Philadelphia Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon is moving one-step closer to his first head coaching job.

The 39-year old impressed the Houston Texans enough to earn a second interview according to Zac Jackson of The Athletic.

As Jackson notes, Gannon and Texans GM Nick Casario are both alums of John Carroll University, but has also been impressive in his interviews, making an extremely strong impression with Houston.

Gannon was considered the front-runner by ESPN's Dan Graziano and was said to have knocked his interviews out of the park with Houston,  Minnesota and Denver.

He was described as very well prepared and a very strong contender to be hired.

If Gannon was to leave, there are some strong defensive coordinator candidates available.

Vic Fangio, Mike Zimmer and Don Martindale have all recently been fired from their jobs and would be great replacements.
