Everywhere you go in South Jersey, there are businesses getting makeovers and old, abandoned buildings being torn down. From beloved stores being converted into new businesses in Somers Point, and popular restaurants getting major makeovers in Stone Harbor, you can find changes happening throughout The Garden State.

One of the New Jersey Shore Towns that has undergone the South Jersey version of "Extreme Home Makeover" over the last 15 years is Sea Isle City. Before the new SIC Community Center had the grand opening in March at the site where the Public School use to stand, locals have seen many over changes in recent years:

*Coastal Chophouse, Sea Isle City's only steakhouse restaurant, opened at the corner of of Landis Avenue and 40th Street, where Shoobies and Bright Spot Cafe used to be
*Atilis Gym SIC on Landis Avenue was completely torn down, and has been rebuilt with plans to reopen on a to-be-determined date in 2026
*In the Townsend's Inlet section, one of Sea Isle City's most famous establishments for decades was Busch's Seafood Restaurant. Over 110 years Busch's was a staple of the south end of the island; Today in its place is The Dunes at Townsends Inlet Resort Hotel.

The Next Famous Sea Isle City Establishment Getting a Makeover

Located off Exit 17 on the Garden State Parkay, Sea Isle City is famous for its great restaurants and bars in the downtown section of the coastal community. But there is another area of town that is just as well-known to longtime South Jersey locals and visitors.

Sea Isle City's first boardwalk stretched from 63rd street to 20th streets, which made this area a social and business hub located 22 blocks south of the modern-day downtown hub of the shore town. For decades, locals and visitors are familiar with the ACME supermarket, then business additions such as the CVS Pharmacy, a regional bank, along with Sands Department Store, and Freda Real Estate Agency on the corner of 63rd street.

The aforementioned Freda Family opened the Pentagon Bar in the mid-1960s down the street from where you will find the real estate standing today. But in 1982, the Desiderio family purchased the property, and transformed it over the years into the famous Kix McNutley’s.

Over the last 45 years, Kix has been one of the top bars among the South Jersey Shore Towns. The local hot spot has seven distinct bars, and now there will be more fun coming to 63rd street in Sea Isle City after their recent expansion announcement.
On social media, Kix announced they are building a Roof Top Bar that will feature an upscale restaurant that will be directly above the Package Goods Store and Night Club. They will also have enclosed outside seating "around SideKix Lounge".

According to online reports, the plan is for the construction of the new bar/restaurant along with overall renovations to the Kix property is a long term project with the finished product not expected to be ready for customers until at least 2029.

Sea Isle City has gone through plenty of changes over the last 100 years, from what the island offered locals and visitors before Ash Wednesday Storm of 1962, and Hurricane Sandy in 2012.
