ShopRite LPGA set to Return to Seaview Resort in 2015
Galloway, NJ – The 27th ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer will be held May 25-31, 2015, tournament officials announced today. Defending champion Stacy Lewis, who has held the World No. 1 ranking since winning this year’s tournament, will join one of the best fields in women’s professional golf in their annual return to the historic Bay Course at Stockton Seaview Hotel and Golf Club.
“This tournament is really special to me,” said Lewis, who joined hall of famers Annika Sorenstam, Juli Inkster and Betsy King as the only multiple winners of the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer. “The course suits my game and the fans are just unbelievable. It’s amazing all of the people we get out at this tournament, and it feels like it’s growing with every year.”
The ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer brings together thousands of fans each year for South Jersey’s largest annual sporting event featuring 144 professionals competing over 54 holes for a $1.5 million purse. The tournament is also home to the largest Pro-Am in professional golf, with more than 800 amateurs playing a total of 1,250 rounds with some of the best female athletes in the world.
“The local community has been amazingly supportive of our tournament and we’re proud to be able to represent South Jersey on an international scale,” said Tim Erensen, Executive Director of the ShopRite LPGA Classic Presented by Acer. “Our continued gratitude to ShopRite, our fans, corporate partners and community leaders for making us one of the best events in all of professional golf.”
ShopRite has served as title sponsor of the tournament since 1992, and has raised $28 million for local charities through its association with the tournament and the LPGA.
“Our relationship with the LPGA has always been important to us, and as we enter our 21st year of tournament sponsorship, our commitment is stronger than ever. Together, we have raised more than $28 million for our local communities – money that has gone back to local schools, hospitals and organizations to help those in need,” said Joseph Colalillo, chairman and CEO of Wakefern Food Corp., the marketing and distribution arm of ShopRite. “Great golf, superb athleticism and the generosity of our vendor partners make this tournament a win-win for everyone.”
