Three different Phillies pitchers have notched a Save so far this season as the Closer position has been in flux.  With Jeanmar Gomez losing the job title, Manager Pete Mackanin has given both Joaquin Benoit and Hector Neris opportunities in the Ninth Inning.  So far Neris has pitched the best earning Two Saves and posting a 1.74 ERA.

1996 Phillies All-Star Closer and CSN Philly Pre and Post Game Phillies Analyst Rickey Bottalico joined The Sports Bash on Monday and gave his perspective on the team's issues with the Closer's role:

"(Phillies) have used four different guys in the Closer's role and it's almost a 'Deer in Headlights' every time they get in that Ninth Inning.  Somebody's got to talk to these guys and say 'you know what, it's just three outs, go out and there get the three outs, don't worry about it."  And quite frankly, the way the games have been going, that Closer's role is becoming a little bit more important on this team that somebody has to step up and take the bull by the horns....Neris definitely has the stuff and you look at coming into that inning, if it's a one run game yeah those are tough outings but you get a two, three run game all you got to do is pitch your game and don't even think about it."
