Tyrese Maxey moves up to 2nd on 76ers’ all-time made 3-pointers list
Is there anything better than making franchise history on your birthday? That's exactly what Philadelphia 76ers star guard Tyrese Maxey did against the Chicago Bulls on Monday night.
Entering the contest, Maxey, who turned 25 on Monday, needed just three made 3-pointers to pass Robert Covington (724) for the second-most made 3s in Sixers franchise history, and it didn't take him long to accomplish the feat. Maxey nailed four triples in the first quarter of the contest alone, and he's now officially No. 2 on Philly's list of players with the most made shots from long distance.
Now, the only player who has hit more triples in a Sixers jersey than Maxey is Allen Iverson, who knocked down 885 3-pointers during his tenure with the team.
At the rate that he's been converting from long distance this season, Maxey could potentially pass Iverson later this season. If not, next season for sure. Barring something crazy happening, it's only a matter of time until Maxey tops the list.
Maxey's proficiency from long-range is somewhat ironic, as concerns about his ability to space the floor (and his size) led to him falling to Philadelphia with the No. 21 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft.
While those concerns may have been legitimate at the time, Maxey has put in the work to become one of the most lethal long-range shooters in the entire league. He's made at least 160 triples in each of the last three seasons, and he's well on his way to eclipsing that number again this season.
