Sixers Add Dean Wade and Ariel Hukporti to Bolster Frontcourt Depth

The Philadelphia Sixers opened up free agency on Tuesday night by signing forward Dean Wade to a four-year, $39 million deal, and on Wednesday added reserve center Ariel Hukporti to a one-year, $3.4 million contract.

How Wade Fits Alongside Embiid and George

For his career, he has started in 160 of 342 contests, hitting .367 of his three-point shots, scoring 5.3 points in 20 minutes per game. He should slide into the Sixers' starting lineup with Joel Embiid and Paul George in the frontcourt, giving the team another solid defender to go along with George.

Ariel Hukporti Brings Championship Rim Protection from New York

As for Hukporti, he should provide depth at the backup center spot behind Embiid, a spot the team has struggled to fill during his career.  

The 24-year-old appeared in 54 games this season and logged minutes in 10 playoff games for the Knicks as an athletic rim-protector. He was the Knicks' third center and could move up the depth chart in Philadelphia. 

In the series against Philadelphia, the 7-footer averaged 10.8 minutes, scoring 3.0 points and 4.3 rebounds.

It will be interesting to see what this means for Adem Bona, who split time behind Embiid with Andre Drummond, who is a free agent.
