Sports Talk with Brodes: Flyers Win in Columbus With a Full Team Effort!
The Philadelphia Flyers beat the Columbus Blue Jackets by a score of 3-2. This was a full team effort where everyone made important plays. Brian Elliott made huge saves late, Robert Hagg blocked shots, the fourth line produced, Claude Giroux scored the game winning goal, and more. The team is playing as one unit and they are all pulling in the same direction. We have not seen this out of the Flyers in a long time. After trailing 1-0, Tyler Pitlick scored a beauty which was assisted by James Van Riemsdyk and Michael Raffl. Sadly, one minute later, Seth Jones ripped a clapper and the Flyers were down 2-1 after the first period. In the second, Scott Laughton scored from a rifle pass off Joel Farabee's twig. Kevin Hayes also recorded an apple on that goal. JVR and Hayes needed to get on the score sheet. Giroux then finished the job on the power play to take the 3-2 lead. The third period was a test as the Blue Jackets came by storm, but the Flyers had enough to hold them off. Ivan Provorov made timely stick checks, Morgan Frost made an important defensive play. It was impressive all around!
