The Flyers are six points out of a playoff spot as play resumes, but have five teams to pass in the standings. One of those teams is Monday's opponent, the New York Islanders.

To avoid an 11th straight loss, the Flyers will need to find a way against the team they faced on Saturday in their 10th straight defeat. The New York Islanders are in town to complete a home-and-home.

A loss in Long Island against the New York Islanders, and the Flyers hit the 10-game mark on a losing streak for the third time in a calendar year.

The Flyers closed the preseason with a 4-3 overtime loss to the New York Islanders, as Noah Dobson scored with 7.3 seconds remaining in the extra session on the power play. The Flyers finished the preseason with a 1-4-1 record.

One day after trading Claude Giroux to Florida, it could be the final game for several other Flyers players, as the team plays the final game before the trade deadline on Sunday afternoon against the New York Islanders.

A goal midway through the third period was the difference for the Islanders, as the Flyers suffered the loss for the 13th straight game, setting a new franchise record in a 4-3 defeat on Tuesday night. 

The Islanders struck for two goals in the first period and had a pair of power-play goals in the game to claim a 3-0 win over the Flyers.

On Tuesday night, it will be more of a 'B' team lineup for the Flyers against the Islanders, as cuts have started to begin, but another chance to see some new faces like Derick Brassard, Rasmus Ristolainen and Martin Jones. 

One more game remains with the Islanders on a three-game stretch, as things return home for the start of a four-game homestand. Time is of the essence for the Flyers and if a turnaround is going to happen, it needs to happen immediately.

The Flyers did get the outcome they needed in the last game, as a late goal propelled them to victory. That was a step in the right direction, but it has to continue. They will face the Islanders again on Saturday night, closing out a four-game road trip.
