Margate Advances, Baseball Returns to Surf Stadium [PODCAST]

Yogi Hiltner has been a baseball fixture in South Jersey for decades, most well known for running the historic Atlantic County Baseball League. Yet the long-time local is also the head coach for Margate's Little League Baseball team, fresh off their dominant run to a District 16 title. We asked their skipper how he'll manage his talented pitching staff, and found out why proud local tradition, and a little bit of luck, has the Hurricanes on top once again.

And while Margate's Little Leaguers are off to the State Tournament, South Jersey will be welcoming dozens of the region's best teams for two prestigious Babe Ruth tournaments. Mike Gill, 97.3 ESPN-FM personality and host of The Sports Bash, joined the South Jersey Sports Report to explain why hosting these events was a year in the making, and also what fans can expect as baseball returns to Surf Stadium.

The Jersey Shore Powder Puff League is nearing the end of another successful season. The league's public relations director talked about the roots of the proud charity organization, and told us why she'll be a part of the action on the field in the third annual 'Puff Bowl'.

The recent water cooler talk has centered around the scandal at Penn State, after the Freeh Report unearthed new details about several high-ranking officials and their failure to act. A recent Penn State graduate and former Nittany Lion soccer player spent a few minutes with us, reflecting on the atmosphere in her four years in Happy Valley. She also told us about her experiences with Joe Paterno and Tim Curley, and how an extremely passionate community can move forward.

And if the name John Stevens is familiar to area hockey fans, you could be hearing it a lot more in the future. The Winslow Township native and son of a former Philadelphia Flyers coach was recently in Stone Harbor for an annual team-building charity event. We asked him what's next in his journey to playing in the NHL, how his father's move to Los Angeles affected his life, and what it was like to be on the ice with the Stanley Cup.
