Outstanding play on both sides of the ball have garnered Middle Township's Zack Vogelei Athlete of the Week honors.
Meanwhile, we have a new batch of local student-athletes who have proven themselves on the field this week. You can vote for your pick, and hear the winner announced on the South Jersey Sports Report with Tyler Donohue Saturday morning at 9:00.
Here are this week's nominees:
Matt Clayton, Football, Egg Harbor Township – Rushed for 191 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Eagles to a comeback 27-23 victory at Millville. Clayton’s second score came on a fourth down play with 1:14 remaining in the fourth quarter and proved to be a game-winner.
Danielle McCann, Soccer, Middle Township – The junior striker scored all three of the Panthers goals in a 3-0 victory over Buena. McCann has tallied 29 scores this season.
David Williams, Football, Hammonton – He scored three touchdowns (two rushing, one receiving) to help Hammonton build an early lead against Mainland. Williams racked up 123 rushing yards as the Blue Devils cruised to a 28-0 win.
Gary Melton, Football, Cedar Creek – The senior speedster rushed for 139 yards and picked up a pair of touchdowns on the ground. He also added a receiving touchdown, as the Pirates defeated Middle Township 48-14 and stayed unbeaten in the CAL.
Samantha Monzo, Field Hockey, Oakcrest – She put on a dominant offensive display in South Jersey Group III tournament action. Monzo led the Falcons with three goals in a 5-0 win over Winslow Township.
