Over the last 25 years, the Philadelphia Eagles have been fortunate to get reliable production from the Tight End Position.

Since Chad Lewis was a second-team All-Pro Selection in 2000, the Eagles have had five consecutive Tight End starters who have scored at least 18 Touchdowns during their tenures in Philadelphia:

-Chad Lewis: 23 TD Catches
-LJ Smith: 18 TD Catches
-Brent Celek: 31 TD Catches
-Zach Ertz: 53 TD Catches
-Dallas Goedert: 24 TD Catches

When the Eagles traded away the 32nd overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft and turned those draft picks acquired into three future starters, the biggest name from those draft pick swaps was Dallas Goedert.

During his seven seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, Goedert has compiled the fourth most Receptions of any Tight End in Franchise History (349) along with the fourth most Receiving Yards of any Eagles Tight End (4,085).

But Goedert has sustained injuries that have forced him to miss games each of the last five seasons. Now 30 years old, there was speculation about the 6'5" Tight End's future in Philadelphia after being a member of the Super Bowl 59 Championship Team.

Good News For Both The Eagles and Dallas Goedert

Multiple reports have stated that after months of trade rumors, the Eagles have agreed to a restructured deal with Dallas Goedert for the 2025 NFL season.

As first reported by Inside The Birds Eagles Insiders Geoff Mosher and Adam Caplan in 2024, there was an option bonus owed to Goedert of $14 Million for the 2025 season. Philadelphia has already spent a lot of cash to offset the Salary Cap by restructuring contracts in recent months for Saquon Barkley and Lane Johnson while giving out new deals for Zach Baun and Cam Jurgens.

ESPN NFL Insider Field Yates confirms the new restructured deal reduces the Cash Due to Dallas Goedert from $14 million to $10 million. The 30-year-old Tight End will have the opportunity to earn back $1 Million via new incentives in his new deal.

NFL Network NFL Insider Mike Garafolo reports that the Eagles received trade offers for Dallas Goedert before and during the 2025 NFL Draft. But Goedert preferred to remain in Philadelphia, and Eagles Coaches advocated for his return as well.

Multiple reports stated that the Eagles had given Goedert permission to explore his options for Philadelphia to trade him to a new team. But the Tight End from South Dakota State has told the Eagles he wants to remain with the team that drafted him.

This offseason, Philadelphia signed younger but less experienced Tight Ends Harrison Bryant and Kylen Granson to add more depth to the position group. Aside from Dallas Goedert and three-year veteran Grant Calcaterra, the Eagles needed depth in case Goedert misses more time in the 2025 season.

Overall, Goedert has missed 22 games over the last five seasons with injuries, an average of over four per year. The Eagles' Coaches value the 30-year-old Tight End as a blocker for the Running Game along being an asset in Philadelphia's Passing Game.
