1. Dec 12, 2012 will be Aaron Rodgers day in Wisconsin – the Wisconsin State assembly passes a unanimous resolution and it is expected to pass. Should active athletes get their own day?

Mike Gill’s Answer: No, they should have to wait til their careers are over.

2. QB Jason Campbell and his soon-to-be-wife reportedly called off their wedding in the Dominican Republic just hours before they were set to tie the knot. If you were a guest or were even in the wedding, how pissed would you be?

Mike Gill’s Answer: Nah, trip to DR is a good trip, if it were to someplace that stunk then yes.

3. 32 years ago today, Al Michaels had the famous “Do You Believe in Miracles” call as the US hockey team beat the Russians and then went on to win Gold.. Is that the greatest moment in American Sports history?

Mike Gill’s Answer: Yes, this is number one.  Buster Douglas vs Mike Tyson maybe next…

4. It is National Margarita day – whats your favorite mixed drink?

Mike Gill’s Answer: Eh, not much of a liquor drinker…maybe a 7 & 7?

5. Ryan Howard admitted today that he watched a lot of TV while he was on the couch after achillies surgery. He said he watched a lot of Real Housewives. Mike, whats the most shameful thing you watch on TV?

The oldest fighter in boxing history to win a world title, Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins, and former World Champion “Bad” Chad Dawson will meet again to settle their heated feud following their October 2011 bout, which was originally scored as a TKO win for Dawson, but later ruled a no decision by the California State Athletic Commission.

The two are ready to resume their high-stakes rivalry on Saturday, April 28 at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.  The 12 round bout for Hopkins’ WBC and Ring Magazine light heavyweight world championships will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:15 p.m. ET/7:15 p.m. PT.

Dawson joined Mike Gill on the Sports Bash to talk about the fight, the first fight and much, much more.  It’s a can’t miss interview to get you ready for the fight at Boardwalk Hall!

The oldest man in boxing history to win a major world title, 47-year old Bernard Hopkins (52-5-2, 32 KO’s) still fights with the skill and tenacity of fighters 20 years his junior.  A proud native of Philadelphia, Hopkins has not only secured a future spot in the Hall of Fame, he has solidified his place amongst athletes who have achieved greatness well into their forties.  Between his 10-year title reign at middleweight and his incredible victories over Antonio Tarver, Winky Wright, Kelly Pavlik and Roy Jones Jr., all after the age of 41, Hopkins is truly a living legend.  In May 2011, he reached the top of the boxing mountain once again with his stirring victory over Jean Pascal, breaking the age record previously held by George Foreman.  Today, Hopkins is a few months away from breaking another record and becoming the oldest reigning champion ever as he continues to follow the path of Archie Moore, who made his last title defense at 47 years and seven months old.  Should Hopkins be victorious on April 28, he will become one step closer to reaching that goal as he faces Dawson with the intention of adding another amazing achievement to his resume.

Former WBC and IBF Light Heavyweight World Champion “Bad” Chad Dawson (30-1, 17 KO’s) has long been considered one of the sport’s best pound for pound by boxing insiders and his victories over respected world champions such as Glen Johnson (twice), Antonio Tarver (twice), and Tomasz Adamek have proven that he has the talent and athleticism to stay atop his division.  In 2011, the 29-year old from New Haven, Conn. bounced back from his lone loss to Pascal in 2010 with an impressive win over Adrian Diaconu, but it’s Hopkins that he really wants to add to his list of vanquished foes, and now he has his chance.  Dawson is ready to end Hopkins’ victory lap as the oldest world champion and start a new chapter of his career as a newly re-crowned champion.

Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said today that he hasn’t ruled out the possibility that Ryan Howard  could see some action during spring training.

Howard took some grounders on the field and also soft-toss swings in the batting cage on Monday and took live batting practice Wednesday for the first time since undergoing surgery to repair a torn left Achilles tendon in October.

While he didn’t completely rule out playing in a spring game, it is highly unlikely.

Howard spoke today at from Clearwater about his injury and gave an update on what he is able to do and when he thinks he might be back.  Plus, Howard talks about the future, being a ,300 hitter, Jim Thome and much more.

Domonic Brown has struggled in his few stops at the major league level.  He has moved his hands, changed his stance and back again, yet nothing seems to work. 

This off-season former major leaguer Gary Sheffield helped Brown adjust his batting stance during the off-season, showing the 24-year-old how he can become a better hitter by squaring his hips and maintaining better balance.

Another one of the issues with Brown that we will be keeping our eye on will be his defense, moving from right field to left field.

Freehold native Robert Gibbons and Toms River resident Anthony DeGraaf started the program called United Strong Against Bullying (USA Bullying) along with WWE/TNA superstar and Olympic Gold Medalist Kurt Angle which aims to educate and motivate students to stand up against bullying and stand strong in the face of adversity.

The program is in its infancy now, being started as a joint-venture between the two Garden State residents and pro wrestler, who formed an unlikely friendship after the pair worked with him on several other of Kurt Angle’s side ventures. Gibbons’ says that they plan to use the appeal and personality of Kurt Angle in order to convey the message to participants of all ages.

He says USA Bullying’s goal is to continue building onto the work done by other national and statewide organizations while working to improve wherever possible. Hopefully, setting the standard in some areas for others to follow.

He says what makes Angle’s speeches relatable is that while he is a larger-than-life sports entertainment personality; his struggles through life have been very relatable.

“A lot of times people, especially pro wrestlers like Kurt, they’ve been bullied when they were little, and that’s what actually motivated them to be great and be champions and succeed in all of things that they do. ”

The tri-fold message of unity, responsibility, and perseverance is something Gibbons and his partners want to take to schools throughout the area, making sure to reach out not only to the bullied, but the bullies also. He notes that sometimes the worst bullies could be the school’s best athletes.

“You protect the people. You’ve been given physical gifts, either god given or through incredible hard work, and by having those gifts you are responsible for the people that aren’t maybe as blessed as you are. ”

He says that it’s important to let the victims of bullying know, “it gets better” and that they should continue to persevere. Gibbons references the struggles Kurt Angle has faced, from bullying throughout his childhood, to the murder of his Olympic coach, to breaking his back six months before trials, to the unfortunate passing of his brother. He says that while the bullied feel very much like victims, it’s important to let them know they can rise above it.

“We are living and walking proof that if you just stay focused on the positive and find the positive, there’s a positive in every situation. You want to promote that good things can happen from bad situations; it’s what you make of the situation.”

Gibbons says that Kurt Angle has signed on his own personal time to work with the program however they are currently in talks with Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) to expand their roster of speakers to include other performers.

With the NHL trade deadline on Monday, we caught up with hockey insider Darren Dreger from the NHL on TSN.

Dreger is often the first reporter on TSN to break both blockbuster and minor deals, as well as free agent signings, and other relevant news from around the NHL.

He joined the Sports Bash to talk about the recent moves the Flyers have made, plus talked about the Nash rumors, and if the Flyers are looking to get a goalie and more.

Hall of Fame linebacker Harry Carson has nixed a bid to run for Congress as a Democrat in New Jersey.

The 58-year-old retired New York Giant and Football Hall of Famer told The Associated Press in January he had been considering a run against five-term Republican Rep. Scott Garrett in a northern New Jersey district.

Carson reportedly told Bergen County Democratic officials late Tuesday that he has decided not to run.

Carson spent his entire professional career, from 1976 to 1988, playing for the Giants.

Since retiring, he worked in sports broadcasting and started his own sports consulting and promotions company.

Although he has never held public office, he was being recruited by officials with the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

“We’re a pretty good distance from the Super Bowl.”

Those were the words from Eagles defensive tackle Cullen Jenkins, who joined the Sports Bash to talk about his new deal, the what went wrong with the 2011 Eagles, his hopes for 2012 and more with Mike Gill.

The Eagles agreed to a restructured contract with DT Cullen Jenkins on Monday.  He was due a $5 million roster bonus on March 13, which on top of his $2.75 million base salary would have given him a prohibitive 2012 cap number of $7.75 million. Essentially playing on a one-year deal last season since the “five-year, $30 million” pact he signed in July was not guaranteed beyond 2011 and didn’t include a signing bonus, Jenkins performed well, notching 40 tackles and 5.5 sacks.
