A J.J. Redick Reunion? Sixers Most Likely Candidate

As Thursday NBA trade deadline inches closer, the Sixers will definitely be a team to keep an eye on by the 4 p.m. deadline.

One name that seems sure to be trade is former Sixers sharp-shooter J.J. Redick.  The New Orleans reserve guard is expected to be traded or bought out by the Pelicans and NBA insider John Hollinger of The Athletic, says the Sixers make the most sense in terms of a trade partner.

One reason is his $13 million salary can be matched by the Sixers, who have seven expiring contracts and a mountain of second-round picks to dangle the Pelicans direction.

Hollinger lists four teams in the mix for Redick, with the Boston Celtics, Brooklyn Nets, New York Knicks and the 76ers due to the proximity of his Brooklyn based family.

So why do the Sixers make the most sense?

they have the best second-round picks, so they’re the ones holding the best cards. They own 2021 and 2023 seconds belonging to the Knicks, which means they’re much less likely to end up in the 50s than a pick from Brooklyn or Boston.

The Sixers can match salary with three dead-weight expiring deals in Mike Scott, Tony Bradley and Vincent Poirier.

Redick of course would be a good shooting fit with Joel Embiid as he was during his two year tenure with the Sixers but is currently dealing with a sore right heel that has kept him out of action.  He had a non-surgical procedure to relieve inflammation in his right heel and has not played since March 3 against Chicago.

Redick is playing 18.6 minutes per game, shooting 36.4% from 3-point range.
