The Philadelphia 76ers announced that rookie Michael Carter-Williams has been named Kia NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for October and November.  He is the first Sixer to win the award since Allen Iverson in April of 1997.

On the day the it was announced he won the award, Carter-Williams posted the first triple-double of his career on during a 126-125 double-overtime win over the Magic with 27 points, 12 boards, 10 assists, three steals and one 3-pointer on 11-of-19 from the field.

On Sunday, Carter-Williams added six more steals in a 115-10 loss to the Pistons, adding 15 points, six boards, six assists and four turnovers in 34 minutes.  He leapfrogged Ricky Rubio for the lead in steals per game and now sits at a ridiculous 3.14 per game.

The rookie has been a phenomenal player at filling the stat sheet and was a clear-cut choice for the award.

Carter-Williams (6-6, 185) was the 11th overall pick by Philadelphia in the 2013 NBA Draft following his sophomore season at Syracuse.  So far this season, he is averaging 17 points, seven assists, five rebounds and a league-high three steals per game.

This is the second honor of the season for Carter-Williams who was named NBA Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played from Oct. 29 through Nov. 3.  Shaquille O’Neal (1992-93) is the only other rookie in the history of the award to be named Player of the Week to start his career.

In his NBA debut against the two-time defending NBA Champion Miami Heat on Oct. 30, Carter-Williams had 22 points, 12 assists, seven rebounds and nine steals.  The nine steals tied the franchise record and was the most by any player in an NBA debut.  Only two other players tallied at least 22 points, 12 assists, seven rebounds and nine steals in a single game (Rickey Green in 1982-83 and Johnny Moore in 1984-85).  The 12 assists was the second-most by a player in an NBA debut, trailing only Ernie DiGregorio’s 14 assists in 1973-74.

Carter-Williams has scored 20-plus points five times this season and has recorded five double-doubles.  Through the first 14 games of his career, Carter-Williams has scored 238 points, which is the highest total by a Sixer rookie since Iverson’s 323 points in 1996-97.
