There are many positives to living in New Jersey. From the beautiful beach towns to enjoy during the summer months to the numerous forests and farms to be appreciated during the spring and fall months.

But the biggest negative in New Jersey is the cost of living. NJ has the third-highest Household Expenses in the United States and New Jersey residents pay an average of $8,165 more annually than what the Median American Household pays for their collective bills.

But the latest research reveals that while New Jersey's cost of living is high, the average NJ resident can afford the costs associated with living in The Garden State.

New Jersey Median Household Income Among the Highest in the USA

The research team at RemotePeople gathered data from the United States Census Bureau to learn which states have the highest and lowest median household income. They compiled information about the household incomes of single-parent families, married couples, and nonfamily households.

The results of their study announced via a Press Release, the RemotePeople team found that New Jersey has the second highest Median Household Income in the United States at $99,781.

But this number is a bit deceiving because when you break down the Median Household Income per New Jersey County, that number drops exponentially. For example, the Median Household Income in Atlantic County is $66,473 and the Median Household Income in Cumberland County is $58,397.

So the numbers show that there is an income inequality gap in New Jersey and just because a group of NJ residents can afford the high Cost of Living doesn't mean everyone makes the level of income to offset the high Household Expenses in The Garden State.

In case you are wondering, all of New Jersey's neighboring states have lower Median Household Incomes than NJ:

-New York: $82,095
-Delaware: $81,361
-Pennsylvania: $73,824

These Are The Top Ten Highest Median Household Income:

1. Massachusetts: $99,858
2. New Jersey: $99,781
3. Maryland: $98,678
4. New Hampshire: $96,838
5. California: $95,521
6. Hawaii: $95,322
7. Washington: $94,605
8. Utah: $93,421
9. Colorado: $92,911
10. Connecticut: $91,665
