When the Philadelphia Eagles hired former Green Bay Packers Quarterback Coach Sean Mannion to be their next Offensive Coordinator, we knew that there would be some serious changes coming to the Birds Offense for the 2026 NFL Season.

Before his two seasons working on the Packers Coaching staff, Mannion was a backup Quarterback for nine seasons. The majority of those years he played in offenses led by men with West Coast Systems and Shanahan Tree Influences (Sean McVay, Kevin Stefanski, Kevin O'Connell).

Those offensive systems typically utilize multiple receivers seeing targets, decreasing the working load for the traditional Number One Wide Receiver Type of player.

So while the rumors still swirl about AJ Brown's future in Philadelphia, the Eagles have added the third new Wide Receiver to the roster this offseason. After signing speedy receivers Elijah Moore and Hollywood Brown, the team has now made a trade to acquire a new Wide Receiver.

On Friday Afternoon, the Eagles traded for Wide Receiver Dontayvion Wicks, and in exchange sending a 2026 5th-round pick plus their 2027 6th-round pick to the Green Bay Packers.

Wicks has compiled 108 Catches and 11 Receiving Touchdowns in 46 games played during his three seasons in Green Bay. The soon-to-be 25-year-old Receiver is very familiar with the offense that new Eagles OC Sean Mannion will run this upcoming season.

The Eagles are also giving Wicks a one-year contract extension that will pay him $12.5 million in 2027. This upcoming season, he will be paid a Base Salary of $3.67 Million. Wicks would be the fifth-highest paid guaranteed salary for the Eagles in the 2027 NFL season.

According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter

"AJ Brown’s future in Philadelphia remains a topic of conversation, and in the meantime, the Eagles add another WR in Dontayvion Wicks from Green Bay.
The belief remains that, if an AJ Brown trade were to happen, it would likely occur after June 1, when the cap burden would be more manageable for the Eagles."
