Eagles Trade for Quarterback Sam Howell After Vikings Add Carson Wentz
With former Philadelphia Eagles No. 2 overall draft pick Carson Wentz joining the Minnesota Vikings, the team traded quarterback Sam Howell to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and 2027 seventh-round pick.
Howell, the former Washington starter, will join Jalen Hurts and Tanner McKee in the Eagles quarterback room.
What It Means for the Eagles’ QB Room
McKee has been dealing with a finger injury that could force him to miss some time, while rookie Kyle McCord struggled in the preseason.
Per NFL Network, McKee suffered a fractured thumb in practice that will bring his availability for Week 1 in question.
The trade likely means Dorian Thompson-Robinson and McCord will not make the 53-man roster, which will be announced on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
Howell offers a young quarterback with starting experience and is a a dual-threat.
Howell’s Career Stats and Background
He started 17 games for the Commanders in 2023, throwing for 3,946 yards, 21 touchdowns and 21 interceptions.
Since being drafted in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft by Washington out of North Carolina, he has spent time with the Commanders, Seattle and spent camp this year with Minnesota.
