ESPN Straw Poll Has Joel Embiid in Second-Place for MVP Award
Joel Embiid had a monster week for the Sixers, but he is still a distant second in the MVP race in a recent straw poll conducted by ESPN's Tim Bontemps.
The Sixers All-Star center has averaged 34.5 points and 11 rebounds per game, leading the Sixers to a 4-0 record, including wins over the Oklahoma City, Dallas, the Nets and Clippers.
Embiid dominated against the Nets, scoring 39-points, 13-rebounds against the Nets and followed that with 36 points, 14 rebounds, one assist and one steal in 36 minutes on Friday against the Clippers.
“I think he’s clearly the MVP this season,” said Ben Simmons
Out of 101 first-place votes cast by NBA media members, the Sixers center garnered just five votes, while Denver center Nikola Jokic received 101 first-place votes.
Embiid has missed 18 games this season, scoring 30 points and 11.1 rebounds per game this season, helping to lead the Sixers to the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 39-17 record.
"I mean I don't think teams know what to do when guarding him." Simmons said.
