Grayson’s Grades: Eagles vs. Commanders (NFC Champ. Game)
PHILADELPHIA - The Philadelphia Eagles dominated the Washington Commanders and won the NFC Championship Game 55-23. It was an impressive performance on all sides of the ball.
The offense scored eight touchdowns and set a Conference Championship Game record rushing for seven touchdowns. Saquon Barkley scored two touchdowns on his first three carries with his first carry going 60 yards for a score. Barkley finished with 15 carries for 118 yards and a touchdown. Jalen Hurts also scored three rushing touchdowns and passed for 246 yards and a touchdown.
The defense was dominant forcing three turnovers which included two forced fumbles and an interception by Quinyon Mitchell. They sacked Jayden Daniels three times. Nolan Smith recorded one of those sacks and now has more sacks (4.5) this postseason than any other Eagles player in postseason history.
The special teams also contributed doing a great job making tackles on kickoff and punt returns. They also forced a fumble and Kenny Gainwell recovered it setting the offense up with a very short field late in the first half.
The Eagles played their best and most complete game of the year in their biggest moment of the season so far. Now an even bigger one awaits and it offers a chance at revenge as the Eagles will meet the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. The Eagles are making their fifth Super Bowl appearance. It will be their second in the last three years and third in the last seven years.
