Joel Embiid injured his shoulder battling for position against Ante Zizic in the first quarter against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was officially ruled out at halftime with a shoulder sprain.

He missed his free throws and was clearly in discomfort to the point where he instantly left for the locker room. Embiid returned to the bench for a very brief moment, but headed off the floor within minutes of sitting down.

This is just a couple days after learning the 76ers will be without their All-Star point guard, Ben Simmons, who is dealing with nerve impingement in his lower back. Simmons will be re-evaluated in two weeks

Embiid is coming off of scoring his career-high with 49 points against the Atlanta Hawks at the Wells Fargo Center. He was going to have to carry this team without Simmons in the lineup before this news.

Now? Who knows what's going to happen. Facing adversity is an understatement for Brett Brown and this Sixers squad right now.
