NFL Network: Marcus Epps Will be a Top 10 Breakout Player in 2022

One of the positions that has been the biggest question mark during this training camp has been the safety position.

The team brought in veteran Jaquiski Tartt, who has started 80 career games in seven NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, including 14 last season.

The Eagles parted ways with Tartt on Monday ahead of today's 4 p.m. 53-man roster deadline.

So does that mean that they feel safety really isn't a question mark for the team this season?

Senior National Writer and host of Good Morning Football on the NFL Network, Peter Schrager thinks the Eagles are fine at safety, as least with one of the players that will occupy that position this season.

Schrager listed Epps has one of his Top 10 breakout players of 2002 saying, "He shouldn't be a question mark.  If anything, he should be an exclamation mark!"

He went on to say he is ready to make the leap, noting that he was all over the field for the Eagles defense last season.

"He will not be a weak spot in this defense, but actually a strength."

The former sixth-round pick by Minnesota from Wyoming was waived by the Vikings, picked up by Philadelphia and placed on their practice squad. Now he is working his way up to be not only a starting safety, but a leader in that safety room

"We have a lot of leaders on that defense," explained Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon. Marcus Epps has taken a little bit of a leadership role, more than last year because he's playing more, and his production is high, and he does everything right."

Over his NFL career, he has compiled 100 total tackles and three interceptions in 45  games. Last season in Philadelphia as the No. 3 safety, he had a career-high 56 tackles and a pick, playing in 16 games.
