Philadelphia Eagles Sign Jordan Howard to Active Roster
After back-to-back productive weeks, the Eages have signed running back Jordan Howard off their practice squad to the 53-man roster, after rushing 29 times for 128 yards and three touchdowns the past two games.
How will they use Howard moving forward remains to been seen, but it sounds as if head coach Nick Sirianni acknowledges that he needs to remain a part of the Eagles offensive game-plan.
"Is he playing good football? Absolutely," Sirianni acknowledged. "Are we happy he's on the roster? Absolutely. We're getting a spark offensively from Jordan Howard.
And so, he's done a great job of carrying the football and being aggressive with the football, and offensive line has done a good job opening up holes for him.
So, yeah, we look forward to continuing that with him, especially for this game against Denver."
The Eagles won't have running back Miles Sanders back for the Denver game, he is still on the injured list with an ankle injury, but he is slated to return soon. When he is back and ready to contribute, it will be interesting to see how Sirianni uses all of his running backs.
Jordan is playing good football right now," admitted Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen on Tuesday when asked . "When Miles comes back, we'll cross that bridge when it gets there. But right now, we're focused on Denver."
One back who seems to be less involved in the offense is rookie Kenny Gainwell, who carried just twice for three yards and a score in the Eagles Week 9 loss to the Chargers.
"Kenny is improving every week. Obviously, he's a rookie. He's getting better every week," Steichen said.
"Boston Scott is playing good. Jordan Howard is playing good. And Kenny, obviously, he scored a touchdown there, too. So, all those guys, it's a committee and those guys are working hard to get better and keep playing good."
Another back who is getting some more touches is Boston Scott, who carried 10 times last week and 12 times in Detroit, amassing 100 yards and two scores.
Sanders arguably one of the most explosive play-makers on the roster, and in the league, running for multiple long touchdown runs. When Sanders was healthy the team rarely leaned on him, until the opening series of the game in Vegas, when he carried six times for 30 yards before leaving with an ankle injury.
So where will Miles Sanders fit in? Should be interesting to watch.
