Report: Furkan Korkmaz Returning to Sixers

The NBA community went into a frenzy on Monday night as free agency kicked off at 6 p.m. Since things officially went underway, deals have flooded out.

After not making any moves as the start, the Sixers have made their first signing of the offseason. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Furkan Korkmaz is returning to Philadelphia on a three-year, 15 million dollar contract.

Korkmaz, 24, has spent his entire career with the Sixers. Last season he averaged 9.1 PPG, 2.1 RPG, and 1.5 APG while shooting 37.5% from beyond the arc.

The Sixers had multiple free agents heading into this offseason and have already retained one. Bringing back Korkmaz gives the team a long-range shooter for the second unit.

This reunion does not come as much as a surprise. Any time Korkmaz spoke about his impending free agency last season, he was adamant about coming back to Philly. Following the Sixers' game 7 loss to the Hawks, Korkmaz called Philadelphia a home.

Through his time with the Sixers, Korkmaz has continued to grow his game. Along with his outside shooting, he has made strides as a ballhandler and a defender.

Still in the early stages of his career, Korkmaz has room to grow as an NBA player. If he can continue to develop, his contract might look even better.

Not only does this move keep a familiar face on the roster, but gives the Sixers flexibility moving forward. With such minimal cap space to work with, smart deals need to be made in the margins.

In today's game, you can never have enough shooting. At that team-friendly price, it is almost a no-brainer to bring back a guy who led the team in three-pointers made just two seasons ago.

Korkmaz returning to the Sixers is certainly a feel-good moment for all involved, but Daryl Morey still has a lot of work ahead of him as free agency rages on.
