Former Cedar Creek Pirate and Rutgers University football wide receiver, Bo Melton, turned heads in Mobile this week, having an impressive week of practice, and a solid showing in the Reese’s Senior Bowl on Saturday.

The Mays Landing resident showed the kind of playmaker Rutgers fans saw all season, showcasing his ability as a pass-catcher as well as a punt returner.

He played for the National team in the Senior Bowl, having two catches for 18 yards, both resulting in first downs, and also had three punt returns for 25 yards.

He had a nice 10-yard catch and run from Nevada quarterback Carson Strong, which is the kind of play you can expect to see from Melton in the NFL game.

The week of practice is a very important step in the draft process for prospects looking to improve their draft stock. Melton was able to show off his speed, as well as his route running ability, which impressed all week.

One area where he will need to show improvement at the combine is catching the football, he did have some issues with drops during the week, but should be a solid Round 4 or 5 selection.

The NFL Draft is April 28-30 and can be heard on 97.3 ESPN.
