Joel Embiid Erupts in Blowout Win Over Mavericks

After a strong showing against the OKC Thunder on Saturday, the Sixers would head to Dallas for the final game of their road trip. They would cap this trip off in dominant fashion, beating the Mavericks by a final of 113-95.

The story of this game would be Joel Embiid. Dallas would opt for a small-ball lineup with Kristaps Porzingis out, and it would be costly. Embiid would face double and triple teams for a large portion of his time on the court, but it still couldn't stop him.

Despite only playing 25 minutes in this game, Embiid would leave his mark. Finishing with 36 points and seven rebounds. He would shoot an efficient 10-17 from the floor and even more impressive 14-15 from the free-throw line.

Embiid said recently that he still feels he belongs in the MVP conversation, and this performance would be a testament to that.

Furkan Korkmaz has been on a bit of a hot streak towards the end of this road trip and would come alive off the bench against the Mavericks. He would go out and score 20 points for the second straight game, only missing three of his ten shot attempts.

Along with making life miserable for Luka Doncic defensively, Ben Simmons would fill the stat sheet in multiple areas. He would end the night with eight points, six rebounds, seven assists, and one steal in 24 minutes of action.

Eight points might not seem like much, but it was the assertiveness when looking to score that stood out from Simmons. There were multiple times where he would confidently put his head down and go through his defender to the basket.

Doncic would have a better outing from the first times these teams met, but it would not be enough to keep the Mavericks afloat. His 32 points might not give the impression, but the Sixers did a great job defensively to make him earn every point. They would hold him to 10-20 shooting and got him to force four turnovers.

This couldn't have been a better performance from the Sixers to wrap up a road trip. With this dominant win under their belt, they now have a lot of momentum as they head back home. Building momentum was much-needed, as the team gears for a tough stretch of games ahead.

With this win, the Sixers now hold sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference. Holding a half-game lead over the Brooklyn Nets.
