Is the Eagles 2019 Offense their Most Talented Ever?
It doesn't take a genius to see the Eagles are going all in on building around Carson Wentz.
While Howie Roseman preaches his philosophy of prioritizing the trenches and has put his money where his mouth is, he clearly doesn't plan to skimp on weapons throughout his second run heading the front office.
Signing Alshon Jeffery, selecting Dallas Goedert with a second-round pick last year, trading for DeSean Jackson, now drafting Miles Sanders and J.J. Arcega-Whiteside.
If Nelson Agholor isn't traded, Wentz and Doug Pederson are looking at nine legitimate playmakers to work with.
Wide Receiver:
Alshon Jeffery
Nelson Agholor
DeSean Jackson
J.J. Arcega-Whiteside
Tight End:
Zach Ertz
Dallas Goedert
Running Back:
Miles Sanders
Jordan Howard
Corey Clement
Is it safe to say the Eagles have never had this much talent surrounding their offense?
The Super Bowl offense of 2017 had the Jeffery-Agholor-Ertz trio to go with Ajay, Blount, and Clement in the backfield.
The combination of Michael Vick, DeSean Jackson, LeSean McCoy, and Jeremy Maclin was a dangerous group in 2010.
Donovan McNabb, Brian Westbrook, and Terrell Owens carried the Eagles offense into the 2004 Super Bowl.
Ertz, Maclin, McCoy, Sproles, and Jordan Matthews made Mark Sanchez look serviceable in 2014.
But to find an offensive unit in Eagles history that has the depth and variety the 2019 Eagles will have? It is hard to find the era that carried that team.
Need a player to go up and get a pass in traffic or make a play in the red-zone? How about getting open with technique, understanding of leverage, and utilizing their length? Jeffery, Ertz, Goedert, or Arcega-Whiteside is your guy.
Need a speedster to take the top off the defense? DeSean Jackson and Nelson Agholor are the home run hitters.
Add the do-it-all ability of Miles Sanders rotating in with Jordan Howard and Corey Clement in the backfield?
Not to mention the offensive line is one of the most complete units in the league.
It will be interesting to see the Vegas odds for favorites to win MVP in 2019. Finding someone with a bigger supporting cast to help him win it that isn't Carson Wentz will be a difficult job.
